Nico Brooks

Emerging designer and engineer in the Bay Area, starting Electrical Engineering at UC Santa Cruz this fall. I build complete systems: boards, firmware, enclosures, and the software people actually use.

Lately

This year has been mostly hardware: Moji, a pocket-sized companion with a face and a personality of its own, and a wrist-worn sEMG wearable for gesture control. I also rebuilt two earlier projects, a self-balancing vehicle and BrooksBoard, with cleaner electronics, firmware, and mechanical decisions.

Outside of building

I work part time at the Hiller Aviation Museum and spend a lot of time at conferences and meetups around the Bay Area across AI, engineering, and leadership. Away from a desk, I swim daily with Stanford Masters and spend time outside with underwater hockey and backpacking whenever I can make the time. I volunteer as a hardware and electronics designer for the artist Tara de la Garza, whose work turns locally collected plastic into art.
